Director - Community and Local Government Relations

Tom is Director of Community and Local Government Relations for Kaiser Permanente’s Colorado region. He joined Kaiser Permanente in 1995. Prior to coming to Kaiser Permanente Tom was the Director of External Affairs for Public Service Company of Colorado after serving as their Director of Program Operations. His responsibilities included community relations, employee communications, corporate giving and issues management.
In his current position, Tom is responsible for community benefit, strategic community health initiatives, partnerships with community clinics, Kaiser Permanente’s consumer panel, economic development and issues involving local and county governments. He also oversees Kaiser Permanente’s participation in Medicaid, the Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Connections, Kaiser Permanente’s charitable coverage program. He has been in the communications and public affairs field for more than 18 years.
Tom serves as a volunteer for several nonprofit organizations. He is the immediate past-chair of the American Heart Association’s 10-state Pacific-Mountain Affiliate board and he served as the American Heart Association’s Denver Metro board chair in 2003 and remains on their board. He is an officer on the board of the Colorado Association of Funders and he is president-elect of the Samaritan Institute national board of directors. Tom is the president of the American Lung Association of Colorado board of directors. In addition, Tom currently serves on the boards of the Colorado Physician Health Program, the American Diabetes Association of Colorado, the YMCA, the Urban League of Metro Denver, the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation, Accelerate Colorado, the Jefferson Economic Council and LiveWell Colorado, where he is a founding board member. He is a member of the Downtown Denver Partnership Transportation Council and he chairs the public policy task force of the Aurora Economic Development Council. He is the 2009-2010 chair of the American Diabetes Association’s Advocacy Committee.
Tom previously served on the boards of the Colorado Council on Economic Education, the Uptown Partnership, the Colorado Ethics in Business Association and the Lower Downtown Rotary Club. He has served in various volunteer roles for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Denver Art Museum, the Colorado Association of Nonprofit Organizations and the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts.
