The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 has created quite a stir. With the pandemic spreading like a wildfire, it has become imperative that we embrace the mantra: “prevention is better than cure.” As we all know, wearing masks, washing hands often and sanitizing your surroundings are some of the mandates. However, most of the health experts have been propagating, one of the best ways to keep the virus at bay is to boost your immunity. So, here are some tips and tricks to boost your immune system during the COVID-19

  1. Eat right: The key element to healthy living has always been eating right. Therefore, from a deeper perspective, the key to boost your immunity to eat right. Eating fewer carbs and eating more immune foods like fruits, vegetables and spices like turmeric are a great source of enhancing immunity. An addition of foods that are rich in Vitamin C, and half of the raw garlic with vegetables like carrots and spinach are recommended. 
  2. Sleep well: What you eat impacts your body the right way only if you have proper sleep. A good, sound sleep of 7-8 hours is a great way to increase your immunity. Incomplete sleep tires you and slows down your brain activity and eventually weakens your body. 
  3. Drink loads of water: Drinking water is the only way of flushing anti-oxidants, waste and any trash from your body. Staying hydrated helps you flush out the toxins that can cause flu. In the current scenario, having boiled (cooled) water on everyday basis is ideal. In addition, having one cup of hot water with honey, lemon and ginger in the morning and before you sleep ensure to keep your immunity system always alert. 
  4. Stay active: Due to the pandemic, all of us have been confined to our homes. Lockdown has cut down on our physical activity which in turn affects our body’s metabolism and immunity. Therefore, to keep your immunity active, it is essential that you workout a minimum of 45 minutes everyday. The workout can be anything from dancing to pilates, basic Zumba or more. Working out not only keeps you physically fit and active but also gives you strength which keeps the Covid virus away. 
  5. Stay sane: The lockdown, slowing of business has brought our lives to a slow motion. This slow-motion has affected our minds deeply. Also, scaring news from all over about the pandemic spreading has weakened our minds. That’s where another important aspect comes into the scene i.e. mental sanity. In the current crisis situation, the last, yet the most important tip that will keep your immunity high is mental sanity. The fear of being affected is dangerous than the actual affect. Therefore, it is imperative that you stay mentally sane by keeping yourself surrounded with positivity, thoughts of hope and courage. Additionally, practising, yoga, meditation and Pranayama everyday has proved to be a great way to enhance your immunity. Therefore, allocating a minimum of 15 minutes everyday is good.

The above pointers are simple and effective. Anybody irrespective of age and gender can practice. In addition to the pointers, checking yourself everyday is also imperative. Identifying symptoms at an early stage can actually help you heal faster. Therefore, based on what healthy experts, here we bring you a basic mandates chart that you may follow in this pandemic situation to stay safe:

  1. Wake up early
  2. Start your day with hot water, honey, lemon and ginger
  3. Have a healthy breakfast comprising of pulses and fruits
  4. Avoid fruit juices but consume fruit as a whole
  5. Avoid foods like rice, maida, sugar to ensure that your BP, carbs and sugar are in control
  6. Have 3-4 times black tea or coffee
  7. Have early dinner so that you can have hot water before going to bed
  8. Sleep early and sleep for 7-8 hours
  9. ideally, workout 20 mins in the morning and 20 mins in the evening. 
  10. Set an alarm for every 2 hours and take 20 steps every time. As we are constantly sitting at home, small breaks of 20 steps keep your joints lubricated. In addition to 20 steps, also do basic stretches and rotation of hands, neck, waist and ankles. 

The times are tough, but instead of fearing and letting the virus conquer you, stay strong and fight it out.
