Tips to Stay Healthy During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Healthy living has to be the way of life. This is something that various health experts have been propagating for a long time. However, 2019 made each one of us realize the importance of the same. 

2019 March marked the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 which took the world like a storm. With the virus spreading multi-fold and the world coming to lockdown, it made us realized the importance of healthy living to fight any disease or pandemic. 

With the current situation still scary and unsure as the pandemic still spreads, health experts have been suggesting that it’s high time that we embrace healthy living to prevent the virus from entering our body. When we speak of healthy living, it encompasses body, mind and soul. In this current situation, healthy living has an addition i.e. Sanitation and safety. Therefore, we bring you tips to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic by broadly dividing the tips into Body, Mind, Soul and Sanitation and safety. These tips help you prevent the virus and if God forbid, if you are affected, they help you fight it out and get back to normalcy. 

Body:

The body is the first thing that you need to take care of to prevent the virus. A strong body with a stronger immune system is what you need to keep the virus at bay. When we speak of a strong body, it comprises of a healthy routine, which in turn is a mix of diet and physical exercise. Therefore, ensure to have a healthy diet i.e. eat more of vegetables, fruits, pulses, dry fruits and less of carbs, sugar, salt and bakery items. As all of us are stationed at home, keeping your body active becomes imperative and tough. Push yourself for a minimum of 45 minutes workout.  

Mind:

There is constant bad and scary news surrounding us. The numbers are increasing, the deaths are on high and more. It is indeed tough times. It is good to be sensitive to the situation, but letting it scare you, make you feel low or negative is not right. Negative thoughts and fear actually make you more vulnerable to attracting Covid. Therefore, fill your mind with positive thinking. Practice meditation everyday to flush your fears out and also to attain control over your mind. 

Soul:

In these tough times, Yoga and meditation have proved to be a great tool to stay healthy. Even if you haven’t done it before, it is suggested that you start now. A simple yoga workout in the mornings or evenings for 15 minutes can help you give a tap on anxiety, depression and fear that seems to be the impact of the pandemic fear. For beginners, starting the Yoga journey with pranayam is also fine. There are many online videos and classes to learn the same. 

Sanitation and Safety:

In the current scenario, another important element for healthy living is sanitation. From time memorial, we have been told that keeping yourself and your surroundings clean is the key to healthy living. However, over time, we neglected it big time. However, now the thumb rule is back. So, washing hands often, avoiding physical contact with your surroundings as much as possible, keeping your surroundings sanitised is important for healthy living. Next comes safety. “Prevention is better than cure,” so, in the current pandemic situation, the basic and the most important way to prevent the spread of the virus is to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Stay home as much as possible. Unless and until needed, avoid stepping out of the house. 

In addition to the above mentioned tips, there are some additional tips which are like MANDATORY. 

  1. Every day have hot water at least twice a day
  2. Ensure to have 7-8 hours of sleep every night
  3. Every day have half a spoon of turmeric in some form
  4. Every day take steam for at least 3-5 minutes
  5. Every day do breathing exercise atleast three times a day. 

By doing the mandatory tips and the broad body, mind, soul, sanitation and safety tips, you can be assured to not only stay healthy but can be assured of building the immune system that would help you keep the Covid virus at bay.
